Use Escalation Override to Configure a Custom Escalation

Overview

You've configured a Basic Notification and would like to establish an escalation pattern where, as an example, the recipient is sent an SMS text message first, then calls the recipient's cell phone if they do not respond after 5 minutes, then calls the recipient's cell phone again if they do not respond after 5 minutes.

Solution

Use the Escalation Editor to customize the type of devices or the order in which they are contacted.

  1. From the Notification Editor, click Escalation Override to open the Escalation Editor.
  2. Select the type of escalation to use for this notification.
    • Do not override personal device escalations: Uses the device escalation defined for each individual recipient.
    • Specify a custom device escalation: Specifies which devices, in which order,  should be used for this notification. If this option is selected, the Edit Custom Escalation window displays.
      • To create the custom escalation, drag devices from the left section of the window to the name of the custom escalation in the right section of the window. In addition to devices like Telephone or SMS, at the bottom is the option "After 5 minutes escalate to" which allows you to specify a pattern of devices to contact if the recipient fails to respond within 5 minutes.
      • When the escalation is created, click Save to return to the  Escalation Editor.
    • Skip specified devices in each personal device escalation: Skips a specific device type, even if it appears in a recipient's personal escalation. Click the check box next to a device type to skip this type of device in every recipient's escalation list. The selected device or devices are not contacted for this notification.
  3. Click OK to return to the Notification Editor.

After completing these steps, when the Notification is sent, it follows the Escalation Override pattern you created.
